Jane Bolmeier is a long time resident of New York's historic Westbeth, a residential and studio complex in the far western section of Greenwich Village, and regularly exhibits at Westbeth's Gallery.
She received an MFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a doctorate in Art Criticism from New York University, and studied for several summers with Hans Hoffman, who was an inspirational , supportive teacher.
Bolmeier a member of New York Artists Equity, was moved to paint the changing colors and moods of Provincetown when she left her studio after 9/11 because of the rancid smell of decay, the smoke, the confusion, the shock, the devastation. Since then, she has continued to enjoy painting in Provincetown on the beach, relishing the purity of the air and its sparkle.
For Bolmeier, early large abstract New York Paintings have been followed by many series of still life, floral, landscape, and beachscape scenes, becoming perhaps freer over time. She cherishes her Westbeth studio which, she notes, faces the Hudson River.
